South Korean attorney, politician, and former public prosecutor who served as Prosecutor General of South Korea from 2019 to 2021 under President Moon Jae-in. He studied law at Seoul National University.
Shortly after the Gwangju Uprising in 1980, Yoon and his colleagues held a mock trial, where he acted as a prosecutor, demanding the death penalty for President Chun Doo-hwan. Following the mock trial, Yoon escaped to Gangwon Province to avoid being prosecuted. He passed the first part of the bar exam in Year 4 of university but failed the second for the next nine years. The reasons for his failed attempts are not clear, but the main cause is widely regarded to be the mock trial he held against Chun Doo-hwan. He finally passed the bar in 1991.
He is the nominee for the conservative People Power Party, the current main opposition party, in the 2022 South Korean presidential election.
