Lim Nam Kyu is a retired South Korean luger and current luge coach. He graduated from Tongjin High School and later obtained a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Yongin University. He began playing soccer at a young age but the sudden death of his father brought financial problems for the family so he decided to complete his mandatory military service around age 20-21. In college, he tried out for luge and became the top-ranked athlete in the country. He participated in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang but finished in 30th place and briefly retired. He became a coach but, in 2021, the South Korean Luge Federation convinced him to return as an athlete. He suffered a serious injury while training for the World Cup but was able to qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. He finished in 33rd place and officially announced his retirement after the event ended.
