In 1926, he was born in Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do, as the second son of actor Seok Geum Seong. Seok Geum Seong was an actor who made a name for himself for his unique acting specializing in villains from the era of silent films to the early 1960s.
Lee Taek Gyun made his film debut in 1949 by appearing in ‘The Hexagonal Ten Warriors’ produced by the Ministry of Public Information. During the Korean War, he was active in the military art group’s Independence Group (獨立遊擊隊). He was active in acting mainly in the 1950s, such as ‘The Crossroad’ (1956). He also starred in films such as Jeon Taek’s ‘Infinite Affection’ (1958), Kwon Young Soon’s ‘Only You’, and ‘In Search of the Sunny’ (1959). He also planned Yoon Bong’s spring work ‘The Life of Hwang Jin-i’ (1961) and Jung Il Taek’s ‘My Heart Like a Star’ (1963).
