Lee Joo Young spent a decade directing commercials and music videos before studying film directing at Korea National University of Arts (KNUA), all the while maintaining her career. After writing and directing a few short movies, including Love Is Patience (2010) which was invited to the 2010 Sapporo International Short Film Festival, she made her feature debut in 2016 with A Single Rider (2016). Starring Lee Byung Hun in the lead and co-produced by Warner Bros, this drama film earned her Best New Director nominations at the Baeksang Arts Awards, the Blue Dragon Film Awards, and the Buil Film Awards.
