He participated in JTBC’s survival show "Mixnine". “MIXNINE” wrapped up on January 26, 2018, revealing the top nine female and male contestants, and announcing which group will make its debut. Kim Hyo Jin was announced ranked 2 for the Male Team and was later announced the winner and part of the debut group with Woo Jin Young (Happyface Entertainment), Lee Ru Bin (Liveworks Company), Kim Byeong Kwan (Beat Interactive), Choi Hyun Suk (YG Entertainment), Song Han Gyeom (Staro Entertainment), Kim Min Seok (WM Entertainment), Lee Dong Hun (Beat Interactive) and Lee Byoung Gon (YG Entertainment). The male team received a score of 8,114 and the female team received a score of 7,866.
