Jung Hoon Hee is a South Korean ballad singer. She was born into a family with deep ties to music as her father was a pianist, her younger brother a bandmaster, and her older brother a guitarist. She got her first song, "Mist", when she was a freshman in high school in 1967. She was singing at the Seoul Grand Hotel nightclub and when practicing one night, composer Lee Bong-jo was eating at the restaurant next door. He heard Hoon Hee sing and decided that his song and her voice were a perfect fit. She has said that she appreciates American singers Diana Ross and Barbra Streisand. In 1970, she won the Singer’s Award at the 1st International Music Festival in Tokyo and came 3rd in the 1975 Viña del Mar Festival in Chile.
That same year she was suspended from any TV appearance after an alleged marijuana scandal. She was cleared and allowed to come back to TV in 1981 but the stigma associated with marijuana smokers at the time made promotions very difficult. She had a brief moment of renewed popularity with the song "Flower Garden" in 1982. She later married singer Kim Tae-hwa and, while being pregnant, she recorded the album "We Are One" with her husband. Other than that, she hasn’t released many albums as she carried her frustration and disappointment from the previous scandal.
