Joo Won is a South Korean actor. He is best known for starring in “King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo”, “Ojakgyo Family”, “Bridal Mask”, “Good Doctor”, “Naeil’s Cantabile” and “Yong Pal”. After debuting as a musical actor in 2006, Joo Won appeared in “Altar Boyz”, “Singles”, “Grease”, “Sinsangnam”, “Spring Awakening”, and most recently the Korean version of “Ghost the Musical”.
Joo Won caught the attention of the writer of the KBS2 drama King of “King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo” and landed his first role on the small screen. Since then, Joo Won went on to star in “Ojakgyo Brothers”, with “Bridal Mask” propelling his rise in popularity.
Just as Joo Won began filming for “Bridal Mask” in March 2012, he also joined the popular variety show “2 Days & 1 Night” as a regular cast member. Through the show, he has revealed himself as an avid “A Pink” fan and a man who gets stressed out by quizzes. However, due to his increasingly busy schedule, he had to leave the program after 1 year and 7 months on the show.
In the spring of 2013, he starred in the MBC drama “7th Grade Civil Servant” with co-star Choi Kang Hee.
In May 2013, Joo Won was offered his most challenging role to date – the role of Park Shi On, an autistic savant who becomes a pediatric surgeon for the KBS2 television series “Good Doctor”. He claimed four awards for his excellent portrayal of the character, and the show successfully raised awareness about how autistic individuals can contribute to society. Joo Won returned to the small screen in the fall of 2014 with “Cantabile Tomorrow”, the Korean adaptation of “Nodame Cantabile”, playing a cynical and eccentric musician.
Joo Won has also been cast in several films since his debut on the small screen: “S.I.U.”, “Don’t Click”, “Steal My Heart”, “Fashion King”, and “Passion Heaven”.
Because of his musical background, Joo Won has also participated in the production of several well-received OST for dramas that he had acted in.
