Born in Incheon in on June 22, 1920, his real name was Jang Gap Sun, after graduating from Incheon Commercial High School, he was fascinated by the musical drama he saw at the theatre and joined Columbia in 1939, and that year and made his debut at Chilsungja, a musical theatre group in Manchuria.
During the Korean War, he enlisted and fought on the front lines, and after the war, he was active in a theatre group.
Since then, action such as ‘A Bonanza’ (1961), ‘The Marines Who Never Returned’ (1963), ‘Black Hair'(1964), etc.
He also won the Best Actor Award at the Asia Pacific Film Festival for his excellent performance in Manmubang (1994), which returned after a long break in the 1980s.
He died on April 2, 2005.
