Hwang Jung Eum is a South Korean actress and singer represented by C-JeS Entertainment. Being a former member of the K-pop group Sugar, she left the group in 2004 to pursue a solo career. Hwang appeared as one of the recurring guests of the variety show “Love Letter” from 2004 to 2006, in which her onscreen pairing with Kim Jong-min became popular. She officially made her acting debut in the 2007 television drama “The Person I Love”.
Hwang has been named as a goodwill ambassador for various programs and events, such as the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival in 2010, Angel (1004) Day in 2010, the Korea Medical Assistance Foundation in 2011, AD Stars (Busan International Advertising Festival) in 2012, the international relief NGO Good Neighbors in 2013, and a Seoul campaign against social problems in 2014.
In January 2008, Hwang confirmed that she was dating musician Kim Yong Jun from the ballad trio SG Wannabe for 2 years, who she first met when she starred in one of SG Wannabe’s MVs in 2005. In 2009, the couple joined as cast members in the second season of the dating reality show “We Got Married” and by that became the first real-life couple to be featured on the show. On May 15, 2015, the couple decided to part ways after nine years of on and off dating.
On December 8, 2015, her agency confirmed that she’s dating former pro golfer and current businessman Lee Young Don, who’s 4 years older than her. The couple got married on February 26, 2016, at the Shilla Hotel after six months of dating. Hwang was confirmed to be four months pregnant in February 2017 and then gave birth to her first child, a boy on August 15, 2017. On September 3, 2020, after four years of marriage, she filed for divorce but later withdrew the request for divorce.
On October 12, 2021 her agency C-JeS Entertainment revealed that she is pregnant with her second child.
