Hong Hye Geol is a South Korean doctor and TV personality. He graduated from Yongsan High School and later obtained a bachelor’s degree in Medicine, a master’s degree in Environmental Health and a doctoral degree in Medicine all from Seoul National University. He is a non-specialist general practitioner who comes from a relatively poor background as his father was a soldier who had to move frequently and did not earn a lot of money. He spent most of his childhood and youth living in a small house alongside his paternal grandparents, his parents and 2 uncles. In 1991, as a junior in university, he met Yeo Esther, a senior 2 years older than him. They fell in love and have been married for nearly 30 years and have two sons who are living in the United States. In 2022 he underwent preventive surgery to remove half of his lungs as he smoked for a long time and found an opacity in a checkup, so to reduce the chances of developing lung cancer, he decided to go ahead with the surgery. The couple has not lived together in years as he now lives alone in a house in Jeju Island as the weather is good for his health while his wife remains in the family home in Seoul. He is responsible for the medical channel "After the Rain" that is active on Youtube and other platforms.
