Chong Te Se

Chong Te Se, sometimes also written as Jong Tae Se, is a retired North Korean professional footballer. He was born in Japan to a South Korean father and a mother who has Joseon citizenship or Chosen-seki (a legal status granted by the Japanese government to ethnic Koreans living in Japan who are neither Japanese nor South Korean nationals). He is legally a South Korean national due to his father, but as his mother identified as North Korean, he obtained a passport and has dual nationality. He graduated from Aichi Korean High School and later obtained a degree from Korea University in Japan.

He made his debut in 2006 when he was selected by Kawasaki Frontale right after college. He played for the until 2010 scoring 46 goals in 112 appearances. He then became one of the few North Koreans to play outside Asia when he moved to Bochum in 2010 and played there for 2 years scoring 14 goals in 39 appearances. He spent one year in Cologne but couldn’t score at all during the season and then moved to South Korea, where he played for Suwon Bluewings between 2013 and 2015. He went to Japan, spending 5 years at the Shimizu S-Pulse, then 1 at Albirex Niigata before joining FC Machida Zelvia in 2021 and staying there until he retired at the end of the 2022 season. He also scored 15 goals in 33 appearances for the North Korean national team and was the starting forward during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
