Hong Wong Pyo, known professionally as Cho Hang Jo, is a South Korean singer. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kwangwoon University. He made his debut as a rock musician in 1976 performing mainly in underground clubs as the lead vocalist of the rock bands "AD 1999" and "Korea Fantasy". In 1987, he moved to the United States where he formed a group called "New Wave Band" and he remained there until 1990 when he returned to South Korea to pursue a solo career. During the IMF crisis, he became very popular with the song "Because I’m a Man", released in 1997 and sung by many men in karaoke bars during the severe economic collapse of that time. Since 2013, he prefers to sing slow ballads or trot songs.
