Kim Jong Dae, known by his stage name Chen, is a member of EXO-M and its sub-unit EXO-CBX. He auditioned for S.M. through the S.M. Casting System in early 2011, at age 18.
Kim debuted as a soloist on April 1, 2019, with the release of his first extended play titled "April, and a Flower" and its lead single "Beautiful Goodbye”, becoming the second EXO member to have debuted as a solo singer. A few months later on October 1, Chen released his second extended play titled "Dear My Dear".
On January 13, 2020, Chen announced his upcoming marriage to a non-celebrity, with a private ceremony attended by both their families. Their first child, a daughter, was born on April 29, 2020. On January 19, 2022, SM Entertainment confirmed that Chen’s wife recently gave birth to their second child.
Chen released a digital single titled "Hello" on October 16, 2020, before announcing that he was set to enlist for his mandatory military service. He enlisted as an active duty soldier on October 26, 2020, and he was discharged on February 24, 2022.
