As “Branding in Seongsu” is coming closer and closer to its final week, the plot is starting to thicken, and as we see in the past week’s episodes, we are in for true drama between the main characters. What looked like an easygoing, romantic-sort of drama has turned out to have more and more intrigues, plans of revenge, and emotional twists. Here are all the things that made this drama all the more shocking and emotional.
Warning: spoilers of episodes 17-20 below!
1. Kang Na Eon helping the underdog team one more time.
At this point, it is almost impossible to decipher how the soul swapping is happening, and though the kissing wasn’t exactly the answer for it, it is definitely related. Since they continue to go back and forth switching their bodies at the least expected moment, Kang Na Eon (Kim Eun Ji) tries once again kissing So Eun Ho (Lomon) and briefly returns to her body, only to be dragged back into it at the end. However, this is the last moment where we can see their chaotic yet cute relationship.
Nonetheless, as she goes back to being So Eun Ho and has no other option but to stick to the underdog team, she starts to work on their marketing strategy. Though in past episodes she seemed rather ruthless when she designated the motel project to their team, the moment she is back as So Eun Ho, she steps up and decides to preserve the place’s identity in order to protect the owner’s own family history, finally admitting that she indeed believes in the ability of the underdog team and emotionally telling them she trusts them.
2. So Eun Ho revealing his true intentions against Kang Na Eon
One of the most shocking moments from this week’s episodes is the revelation of So Eun Ho’s true intentions. Behind that cheerful and easygoing appearance, there was always a desire for revenge against Kang Na Eon. Though it isn’t shown right away why he is doing all of this, or what he plans to do to get back at her, he warns Na Eon that he won’t stop until he gets what he wants, which is to reveal the truth about an accident that occurred five years ago that left Eun Ho with big scars and emotional pain.
At that moment, they switch back to their respective bodies once again, and Eun Ho prepares behind the scenes. He teams up with none other than the executive director that wants to get rid of Na Eon, who assures he has the proof that Eun Ho desperately wants. And Do Yu Mi (Yang Hye Ji) strikes once again against Na Eon, claiming that she will expose her terrible past. Despite having enemies everywhere going after her, Na Eon still prepares to present her marketing strategy for the corporate company, proving how desperate she is to continue with the project.
3. The candle incident of five years ago finally being revealed
When everything seems to be working in Kang Na Eon’s favor, she is surprised by So Eun Ho’s arrival at the company, this time not merely as a new employee but as a team manager for Segye Group, the position she once desired. That is when their bodies get switched for the last time, and the show reveals the truth about what really happened in the past, showing how intertwined their fates were from the beginning.
As it turns out, Kang Na Eon not only stole the branding strategy that belonged to Eun Ho for a scented candle project, but she also pushed to get rid of every trace of the plagiarized work, which ended up in the death of Eun Ho’s beloved one. Though she wasn’t the one who murdered her, Eun Ho sees her as the indirect culprit and admits that it was probably his desire for revenge that made them switch their bodies.
4. Kang Na Eon and So Eun Ho competing against each other as team managers
Now that the two of them have similar standings, Kang Na Eon, once again as So Eun Ho (probably the last time we ever see her as him), has to draft a new marketing strategy for a big corporation that wishes to announce a new liquid hydrogen battery in Korea. Despite his desire to get back at Kang Na Eon, So Eun Ho starts to work as well on his own plan with the help of the underdog team. Unwillingly, he continues pretending to be Na Eon.
While working for the marketing presentation, So Eun Ho realizes that the corporation stole the battery idea from a small company and is trying to erase the evidence. Thinking about his own history, he decides to ditch the competition for the account and reveal the issue. However, it seems that Kang Na Eon is once again one step ahead of him, frustrating his plans midway. It leaves us wondering if she will do the right thing and try to mend her mistakes from the past or if Eun Ho will make her pay for it.
