The name ENHYPEN means connection, discovery, and growth. Similar to how a hyphen connects words to discover a new meaning, ENHYPEN refers to how the members discovered each other, are connected to one another, and will continue to grow together.

Fandom

ENHYPEN’s fandom name was announced on October 8, 2020 to be ENGENE. ENGENE combines the words engine, en (from ‘en’hypen), and gene. The name carries two meanings. One of them describes how fans represent a source of fuel and energy for ENHYPEN similar to an ‘engine’. The second meaning comes from the combination of en + gene, which represents the connection between ENHYPEN and fans through a common gene.

Members

ENHYPEN is composed of seven members born between 2001 and 2005. Their names are: Jungwon, Jay, Jake, Niki, Heeseung, Sunghoon, and Sunoo.

ENHYPEN members’ ages ranged from 19 to 14 years old at the time of their debut in November 2020. The oldest member is Heeseung (born Oct 15, 2001). The youngest member is Niki (born Dec 9, 2005).

ENHYPEN has 5 Korean members and 2 foreign members. Jay and Ni-ki were born outside of Korea (USA and Japan, respectively). Jake was born in South Korea but moved to Australia at a very young age. All the other members were born in South Korea.

I-Land (아이 랜드; 2020) was a South Korean survival reality show that followed the creation of the perfect Kpop boy idol group by BELIFT LAB, a joint company of Big Hit Entertainment (label behind BTS) and CJ E&M Entertainment. The show took place in the I-LAND, a state-of-the-art construction with 3 years in the making.

Ni-ki is the youngest member of ENHYPEN. He was born and raised in Japan and started dancing from a very young age. • On September 02, 2021, it is released that ENHYPEN members test positive for COVID-19 through an announcement on Weverse: “Hello, we are BELIFT LAB. ENHYPEN members Jung Won, Hee Seung, Jay, Jake and Sung Hoon have been diagnosed positive for COVID-19 infection while undergoing self-quarantine. Following the confirmation of a COVID-19 case at a production site, ENHYPEN went into precautionary self-quarantine from Thursday, August 26 and was classified by government authorities on Friday, August 27 as requiring self-quarantine due to close contact. During his self-quarantine, Jake began showing symptoms including cough and fever on Sunday, August 29, and after reporting his symptoms to the local government health center he underwent a PCR test. He was found positive for COVID-19 on the morning of Monday, August 30. Subsequently, members Jung Won, Hee Seung, Jay and Sung Hoon began showing similar symptoms on Monday and a PCR test was performed which confirmed their positive diagnosis for COVID-19. Following instructions from health authorities, necessary measures are being carried out, including assignment and relocation to treatment facilities; the members are currently showing mild symptoms. After the COVID-19 case occurred on site on Wednesday, August 25, everyone present, including the performers, underwent PCR testing, was confirmed negative and entered self-quarantine; as such, the possibility of further spread is low. All artists and staff who underwent self-quarantine performed a twice-daily self-test, closely monitored their health, and promptly conducted PCR testing as soon as symptoms appeared. We apologize for causing concern to all fans by not being able to prevent the occurrence of this series of infections despite our efforts to ensure that precautions were taken on site.   • On Saturday 04 they announce that Ni-Ki is positive for COVID-19. Here is the statement via Weverse: “Hello, we are BELIFT LAB. Ni-Ki, a member of ENHYPEN, has been diagnosed as positive for COVID-19 while in self-quarantine. Ni-Ki had entered self-quarantine in separate quarters and closely monitored his condition with daily self-testing as well as PCR testing; he started showing symptoms of coughing on Friday, September 3rd and was diagnosed as positive for COVID-19 the following day. Following instructions from health authorities, he is preparing for transfer in a treatment center, and is showing mild symptoms. With the deepest sense of regret, we offer our apologies to fans for this news of an additional diagnosis of a member after our previous notice. Our company will make every effort to ensure that the artists can recover. In addition, we will continue to cooperate with requests and instructions from government health authorities. Thank you.”
  • On Wednesday the 15th they announce the recovery of the members: “This is BELIFT LAB. We would like to inform you that it has been determined that ENHYPEN members Jung Won, Hee Seung, Jay, Jake, Sung Hoon and Ni-Ki have fully recovered from COVID-19 and have been discharged from their treatment facilities, and are no longer in quarantine as of Thursday, September 16. All members are resting with a clean bill of health. Sunoo also underwent a retest to come out of self-quarantine and tested negative. We appreciate your deep concern for the health of our artists. We would also like to inform you that ENHYPEN’s first studio album will be released in October. We will provide you with a separate notice with details. We will continue to give top priority to the health and safety of our artists and will fully comply with the government’s COVID-19 control measures. Thank you.”
