The leader of Day6 is Sungjin (born Jan 16, 1993).
The oldest member of Day6 is Jae (born Sep 15, 1992).
The youngest member (maknae) of Day6 is Yoon Do Woon (born Aug 25, 1995).
Members Young K, Wonpil, and Dowoon are part of Day6’s sub-unit Even of Day.
Jae left the band and terminated his exclusive contract on December 31, 2021 due to personal reasons. He was the lead guitarist and main vocalist of the group.
Facts
Sungjin told that DAY6 trained with GOT7 and they were really close. He even said that he himself had an emotional problem because 3 members of DAY6 would join GOT7. Fortunately, it was not like that.
They ranked #1 in searches for “Nate” in real time after releasing “Lovely Girl”.
The band’s name during its pre-debut period was 5LIVE, but it was changed to DAY6 by the entry of Do Woon.
They are under the JYP Entertaiment agency, but with the Studio J record label.
In an interview they were asked about how they were selected by the JYP:
Jae said he was selected through the KPOP STAR program.
Sungjin said he was selected thanks to trophies he won in various singing competitions.
Junhyeok was selected thanks to one of his sisters, who sent a video to JYP showing the member singing.
Young.K said that before everything he simply uploaded videos to the YouTube platform singing with some friends, and after that and submitting several videos he decided to apply for auditions.
Wonpil simply auditioned.
Dowoon said he auditioned to play drums.
All members agreed on one piece of advice in order to win auditions: show that you have a unique personality.
Initially Dowoon did not sing, he himself explained that his voice was not yet formed and that he needed more training, nowadays you can hear his voice in the chorus as accompaniment.
Sungjin has said several times that the best looking members are Dowoon and Wonpil.
All members chose Wonpil as the most caring member.
Members said that Sungjin is like a father who only scolds and Wonpil is like a mother, who looks out for the good and cares for the members.
All the group members have a good friendly relationship with their company mates from 15& and Baek A Yeon.
On July 23, all the members opened a common Instagram account with the name DAY6; making that name the official name of the band.
Young-K has already been in Inkigayo, Music Core and M!Countdown supporting Baek A Yeon on rap and guitar beats.
They had performances on July 23 and 31, 2015; in a contest the 6 of them are seen playing on stage; JYP said that this way they gained more experience for when it was time for their debut.
There is not only one lead vocal, but it was distributed among the five vocalists in the band (with the exception of the drummer.).
They participated in the composition of all the songs on their first mini album. They even revealed in an interview that they did the backing vocals themselves.
On September 1, the agency released a trailer to announce the group’s debut mini-album, named ‘Congratulations’. In it, we can see various actors from JYP Entertainment, including Choi Woo Shik and Jang Hui Ryoung, as well as the first official footage of the band playing their instruments.
They composed and produced all the songs of their debut mini-album; receiving very good reception from Korean netizens.
DAY6 ranked #1 in searches for Naver, Nate and Melon in real time after releasing “Congratulations”. They also trended worldwide in various countries such as the Philippines, USA, Thailand, England and South Korea.
The MV of “Cogratulations” ranked #1 on China’s Real Time Chart.
The first mini-album ranked #2 on Hanteo Chart after it was released; as well as #1 on iTunes in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. And in the top 5 in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia and USA.
The “Congratulations” MV was removed by a possible “hacker” when it was about to reach one million views (on its second day). On the fourth day, JYP Entertainment recovered the original MV and was finally able to get over one million views with more than 80,000 likes. Even so, the damage was already done as many views were lost in the process, and the impact that every MV has during the first few days of release was also lost.
The song “Congratulations” also occupied the #2 spot on the famous Billboard chart.
They have participated in different festivals since their debut, demonstrating their vocal and instrumental quality numerous times.
The band’s current lineup came about 5 months before debuting, when Dowoon joined. The guys were preparing to debut as an acoustic band, without drums.
They said they remembered male fans more at events (ShimShimTaPa).
To get closer to the fans, they came up with the idea of busking. After the first one, the fans complained about the poor quality of hearing and the guys took it upon themselves to find a place where everyone could see and hear them well.
They had a presentation of their debut album in Taiwan on October 18.
Jae has been nicknamed ‘Hashtag Wizard’, ‘Hashtag King’, etc. for the hashtags that characterize his instagram and twitter updates.
Junhyeok called himself ‘Hashtag Fairy’, following Jae’s example and not wanting to be the king because it sounded too ‘old’.
All members can sing in English with good pronunciation, however, only Young K and Jae can speak it.
Jae is Argentinian, however he said in an interview that despite that he could not speak the language fluently.
They are known for their self-promotion.
Although they are often asked about their opinion of having debuted with iKON and many fans argue to impose their group as the best, DAY6 said that they find it amazing to be put on the same level as them.
The members have said that they all have very different tastes, but they agree on One Republic, the group they cover in their presentations and performances (Stop & Stare). They also performed impressive live covers of songs like Happy, Lost Stars, Sunday Morning, She Will Be Loved, among others.
They ranked 5th in a survey of Most Handsome K-pop Boy Groups In 2015.
All tickets for their first live concert sold out in just 5 minutes.
They went to support the last day of the musical CINDERELLA in which their company colleague Baek A Yeon participated as the princess of the popular fairy tale.
They were nominated for the “GLOBAL POPULARITY AWARD”.
In the results of the OneHallyu Awards, DAY6 won “Best Rock Act” and member Jae won “Best Social Network Profile”.
DAY6 every two weeks is a special guest on Sukira radio on Sundays, they have become part of the Sukira family and close to Ryeowook (Super Junior).
They were featured in the Taiwanese magazine “A-Star” in which they tell about their fan-meeting.
They were confirmed for Kcon Toronto 2016 to be held on May 22.
On February 27, JYP released an official statement on the group’s fan site saying that Junhyeok had cancelled his contract with the company for personal reasons and therefore will no longer be a part of DAY6.
They will perform for the first time in Japan on April 9-10 for KCON 2016 Japan x M! Countdown along with 2PM, TWICE and other groups.
All members have deactivated their accounts on both Instagram and Twitter and have created a group account on Instagram as “DAY6KILOGRAM” the name was Sungjin’s idea.
According to a representative of its agency, JYP Entertainment, DAY6 will appear on the March 31 broadcast of Mnet’s ‘M Countdown’. He said, “DAY6 plans to promote through broadcasts, mainly centered on music programs. It will approach the public in a more familiar way.”
His Mini Album ‘Day Dream’ ranked #1 for iTunes in different countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand.
In a live broadcast of the V app they asked from which countries were the people who enjoyed their music, and a large number of Asian and European countries appeared. The latter included countries such as France, Romania and Germany.
After four days of releasing DAY6’s MV (“Letting Go”) it reached one million plays.
In the V app they made a special broadcast showing their house for the number of followers that account had reached in the V app. Among the highlights were two PS4s, Jae said that was since Wonpil sometimes wouldn’t let them play one.
Initially the group (along with more of the company’s artists) was not added in JYP Entertainment’s video game, “Super Star JYP Nation”. This prompted many fans to ask for the group’s incorporation into the game. After insisting, Dalcom Soft (Developer of the game) confirmed on July 15 that DAY6 would enter the game in the next update on July 22.
On May 10, it was confirmed that the group would suspend promotions for their new comeback to focus on their mental health, JYP Entertainment revealed a statement about the members’ mental health and the group’s upcoming comeback. The statement reads, “Hello, we are JYP Entertainment. First, we would like to apologize for delivering such unfortunate news on the eve of DAY6’s comeback. Recently, some of the members showed symptoms of psychological anxiety and received a detailed examination. The medical advice was that they needed sufficient rest and stability. After careful discussions between the agency and the members, we decided to temporarily suspend the team’s promotions, including the promotions of this upcoming album, to focus on recovering their health. We ask for your understanding in suddenly suspending promotions with a new album on the way. As an agency, we promise to do our best to prioritize the health of the members and focus on improving their condition. We will notify you the details of their return to promotions when the time comes. We ask for your support and love so that DAY6 can fully recover as a team once again.”
On December 31, 2021, it was reported that Jae terminated his contract with JYP Entertainment to concentrate on his solo activities and projects.
